This digital photography depicts daily life in the holy city of Varanasi, also known as Benares, Kashi or the City of Life. Located on the middle banks of the Ganga River in Uttar Pradesh North India, this ancient city is one of seven sacred sites for hindu worshipers. Varanasi is home to extraordinary temples, the Durga temple, Hanuman Temple...These spiritual environments exude mysticism, the artful and performative refinement of spiritual expression. The performance of sacred rituals is at the heart of hinduism religious ontology. In hindu mythology, water is an abode for purification, and as such, pilgrims have been bathing in the Ganga River for thousands of years. Today, the Ganga River is one of the most polluted rivers in the world, but for a large population the only access they have to water for all their daily needs. This is cause for sickness and death, especially for young children. India is the number-one poverty-stricken country in the world, China is the second. This colourful image candidly documents the daily life of women in the City of Life. These women embody powerfully the wild female archetype, resilient and colourful.
