The Ecosophy of a Plant-based Diet

I have been vegan for almost three years now.  I decided to become vegan for environmental reasons when I returned from 6 months of research in China in 2016.  I had been vegetarian since my yoga teacher training in Rishikesh, India, in 2013, and on and off exploring local organic vegan, vegetarian and organic meat-eating habits before that.  I have been eating organic food since my late 20s. I am amazed at all the health benefits that I have discovered adopting a plant-based diet, and the intense yoga that I have been able to do as a 40-year-old vegan woman.  I am strong and doing things now that was unable to do in my 20s. I even learned longboarding this year. It’s so fun!  Seriously, it’s the last thing I would ever of thought about trying as a 41-year-old woman…but there it is.  I now own a longboard with fat wheels, and it’s one of my most favorite things to do when the temperature obliges…

I absolutely love my plant-based local organic eating habits, which is an intricate part of my spiritual process. I would never go back to my old eating habits. I was raised on meat, dairy and the Canadian national health propaganda by a nurse.  So, I have a lot of compassion for the complexity of this process and have been experiencing first hand the ways in which the consumption of meat and dairy is deeply ingrained in the ways in which we relate to each other. What has to be clarified is the extreme degree to which lobbying meat and dairy industries have managed to penetrate the most influential political institutions with the intention of controlling your life for the purpose of making money on your life.  There is nothing random about their manipulative stratagems. What has to be understood, and this is something Dr. Vandana Shiva said when I interviewed her at COP 21 in Paris in 2015, is that today corporations want to make money on your life.  I was amazed and astonished by the information in the 2017 movie co-directed by Kip Andersen and Keegan Kuhn What the Health.  What a great example of the intricate demonic nature of these industries, and the devastating impact on both the planet and individual health. I have been an environmental activist for over a decade now. I have traveled by myself in India, China, and Mongolia, and I have seen environmental destruction and documented extreme poverty first hand. I have done a lot of research on water pollution in China, air toxicity and soil contamination.  The truth is it is not OK to keep living as if nothing is happening.  The planet is dying with 60% of animals that have already gone extinct. That’s under y/our watch. Adopting a plant-based diet is one of the most powerful ways in which you can exercise your power by choosing life over corporate greed. Of course, it doesn’t stop there. Eating local organic food is a major stepping stone towards climate catastrophe adaptation. Fashion is another major polluter and human rights abuse enabler. It’s time to wake up people! To be quite honest, I am tired of apologizing and having to make other people feel comfortable for the ethical choices that I chose to live my life by.

I have been accused of being hard core for my lifestyle choices.  I don’t know what is hardcore about wanting and feeling entitled to live a healthy life in equilibrium with Mother Earth, caring about life and future generations.  It seems rather normal to me. I don’t have any desire of becoming anything anymore or doing anything anymore.  Everything becomes meaningless in a dying world, apart from our efforts to share joy, uplift and celebrate life.  I am not interested in social drama, self-masturbatory empty pleasures, the masked…parading and pretending…I just want to spend time with people I love, and find a way to get off grid and self-sufficient as soon as possible. That’s my only REAL goal in life.  I want to help my friends and my community stay safe.

You can measure the things you love by what you are willing to give up for them.   What are you willing to give up to save the planet from destruction?

And just for the record, ostriches don’t actually put their heads in the sand when they are scared…When shit hits the fan…. they run!

My artwork, experimental films, and scholarly reflections emerge from a deep curiosity and fascination with the boundlessness of the human spirit, the limitlessness of the cosmic universe, the mythological, the spiritual, the exploration of my EARTH LIGHT body which emanates from infinity (this is the realm of the MYSTERY, the wildest imagination), as well as a real concern for our beautiful planet MOTHER EARTH.  The premise of this heuristic body of work is that the current planetary crises are crises in human consciousness, crises of the humanity group soul/spirit. As an environmental advocate and consciousness activist, my work intends to intentionally participate in redesigning culture, the intentional participation in designing a post-growth ecological culture (this is the creative process of redesigning culture) for an ecologically sustainable and spiritually thriving planetary future. My intention is to shed light on the sacred multidimensional ways in which we potentiate the power of our consciousness. This body of work is a prayer to humanity to align our mind and hearts, to raise the power of our hearts, to develop methods and technologies to go inward towards the complexities and awareness of our individual connection to Source We are the Rainbow Warriors.  If the world is indeed participatory, we manifest/dream this world into existence. Indeed, dear friends... a colourful future is ours to create!
